Overview

Dr. Woodyard offers BOTOX to men and women throughout the Baltimore area who desire to have smoother skin with less wrinkles. BOTOX is an FDA-approved treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows and alongside the eyes at the crowsfeet. During treatment, very low doses of the medication are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles. Once injected, the muscles under the skin that are responsible for frown lines between the brows and/or crow's feet lines begin to relax. BOTOX safely suspends movement in these muscles for a period of 3-4 months leading to a smoother, more youthful and relaxed appearance.

Administering BOTOX

BOTOX is administered during an in-office appointment that typically takes about 20-30 minutes. The extent, nature and location of wrinkles varies for each patient. Therefore, the injection treatment, including the dosage and injection location, is tailored during the procedure. The injection is given through a syringe to localized areas on the face. Patients may feel a small prick as the needle is inserted through the skin, but any pain or discomfort can be limited with the prior application of a topical anesthetic.

What to Expect

Immediately following a BOTOX injection, there may be some mild redness at the injection site. This will subside a few hours after the procedure. Patients can resume their normal activities immediately, but exercise should be avoided for a few hours. It is also recommended that patients keep their heads elevated for the first 4-6 hours. Results following BOTOX will become apparent within 4-10 days. About a week after treatment, patients will notice an inability to fully move the treated muscles. With limited movement, wrinkles will cease to appear. The result is skin that appears smooth and more youthful.

Expected Cost

BOTOX treatment costs will vary depending on how much of the medication is used and how many areas are treated. The cost can range between $450-$875 per session. BOTOX FAQs

Is it Safe?

BOTOX is approved by the FDA and has a long, safe history. It is administered in over 75 countries and consistently ranks as the most popular cosmetic procedure in America. However, even with its popularity, BOTOX is a drug and should only be administered by a qualified medical practitioner experienced in its use. Individuals who receive injections by someone inexperienced run the added risk of obtaining an undesirable result.

Comparable Medication?

There are now several brands of botulinum toxin available to relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and frown line. There has been much debate as to which drug, if any is superior. There are relative advantages and disadvantages to each. Some of these differences can be discussed during the consultation.

BOTOX or Filler?

Injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane, or Juvederm help decrease wrinkles by adding volume to the treated areas which diminishes wrinkles and creates the appearance of smoother, more youthful skin. BOTOX diminishes lines by temporarily freezing the underlying muscle(s) causing the wrinkle(s). A skilled practitioner like Dr. Woodyard will be able to determine if a filler material or a product like BOTOX, or both would garner the best results.

Best Age?

Individuals who wish to soften and decrease facial lines and wrinkles may be candidates for BOTOX. The most common age to receive BOTOX injections is between 30-55. However, it is also common for patients younger and older to receive injections.

Long Lasting?

BOTOX is not a permanent fix. Results will last for several months - sometimes longer - but they will not last forever. Qualified injectors will tell you there is good news and bad news when it comes to BOTOX. The good news is, if you are not happy with your results, the results will only last a few months. Likewise, the bad news is, if you love your results (which most people do), the results will only last a few months. Regardless, many patients recognize even the temporary results are worth feeling and looking younger.
