Overview

Volume loss occurs naturally during the aging process, particularly in the middle of the face as the cheeks tend to become flat and hollow. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Janet Woodyard offers Sculptra Aesthetic, a poly-L-lactic acid dermal filler that allows for fuller and longer-lasting volume in the apples of the cheeks. In addition to improving the volume of the mid-face, Sculptra can decrease the appearance of fine to deep lines and wrinkles, including the nasolabial folds (also called laugh or smile lines) that go from the sides of the nose down to the outer corners of the mouth. With a unique formula approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sculptra promotes the natural production of collagen in your body, so even after you stop injections, your complexion should be stronger and healthier compared to before Sculptra treatments. Administering Sculptra

After your consult to create your custom plan for treatment, you can receive your Sculptra injections in one of our private procedure rooms. The injector may use a local anesthetic or numbing cream prior to cleansing and marking the areas to be injected. As soon as you are prepared, the filler is injected into the deeper layers of the skin at the selected areas. For best results, we perform a series of four Sculptra injections that are each given about three weeks apart.

What to Expect

After your appointment, you may experience mild or moderate swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection areas that should subside naturally in about 3 – 5 days. To encourage healing, you may apply cold packs to the injected areas. You should limit UV exposure after your treatment and use sun protection. Most patients will notice clear improvements right after their injections with final results seen after a few months, as the natural production of collagen strengthens the skin. If performed in a series over the course of 3 – 4 months, your results may last up to two years.

Sculptra FAQ

How much does Sculptra cost?
Treatments with Sculptra can vary in price depending on how much you need to achieve your goals. You may need multiple injections for the optimal outcome. In your consultation, your injector will discuss your concerns and develop a treatment plan with cost estimates.

How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator. It helps to rejuvenate the skin’s elasticity and appearance over time as more collagen is produced. The rebuilt strands of collagen can effectively fill out moderate to severe lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Are Sculptra injections safe?
Sculptra is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and it has been used safely around the world since 1999. Side effects are rare and usually mild, including minor pain, bruising, redness, and swelling. In some cases, small bumps may appear when pressure is applied to the injection site. Call us if you have any abnormal or lasting side effects.

What is the best age to receive Sculptra?
Sculptra is beneficial for individuals who want to improve the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is ideal to fill wrinkles on the chin, fine lines surrounding the mouth, and the deeper lines between the mouth and nose (nasolabial folds). On average, patients begin to get Sculptra injections starting around their late 30s to early 50s. However, Sculptra can be safely used on most men and women who are over the age of 18.

How long do results last?
For longer-lasting results, some patients may need to receive multiple injections. Sculptra is different from other fillers because the results can last as long as two years. Since Sculptra continues to increase the natural production of collagen in your skin, results may appear more gradually.
