Baltimore plastic surgeon, Dr. Janet Woodyard, is an experienced body contouring surgeon and offers abdominoplasty for men and women who desire a more toned abdomen. Sometimes, regardless of how much exercise and dieting a person does, a persistent “pooch” can still appear in the lower stomach. This pooch usually contains a combination of loose skin and pockets of fat that is common among women who have given birth, and both men and women due to the natural aging process. Not all patients are candidates for a full tummy tuck, which is good news to hear during the consultation. Instead, patients that have good skin tone with some loose skin and moderate abdominal stretch may only need a mini tummy tuck. This is a less invasive abdominoplasty procedure that uses a smaller incision and has an easier recovery. It produces outstanding, lasting results for our patients.
"I had a breast reduction from Dr. Woodyard over 23 years ago and I must say I am still SO VERY HAPPY. I have watched some of these plastic surgery shows and recently I saw a show dedicated to women that had had complication from a reduction (the horror). I never thought one could have problems with a reduction but wow can you....I had the best results and experience with Dr. Woodyard and never had any complications and to this day my GIRLS are just as perking and looking great as ever. I remember how professional, caring and informative she was. I trusted her completed and I'm so glad she was worth the trust, as I was young and did not ask many questions. I am grateful now and was grateful then..."- A.A. / Google / Mar 21, 2019

"Dr. Woodyard is extremely knowledgeable and answered my questions before I could ask them. I never realized the whole process of a breast augmentation until Dr. Woodyard laid it out for me. "My sister had found Dr. Woodyard online after I had experienced a tragic fall this past winter. I was very trepidatious about the procedure to be done on my nose, but rest assured she put my woes at ease. Nervous and anxious each visit, I was always comforted by the warmth of her office, kindness of her staff, and her impeccable way of making me feel like I was in good hands. Each visit was so informative it was like a college course. I loved her calm and caring demeanour that helped me go through with this procedure and I never felt alone. Her attention to detail is meticulous and her skills are artistic. A true family atmosphere from the get go. She even advocated to have my procedure covered by insurance. She also has an amazing Esthetician, Stacey Edgar who is such a wealth of knowledge and even took time out of her day to chat with me. Don't go anywhere else. My experience was amazing and I think I made some friends!"- L.E. / Google / Oct 09, 2019
"I am beyond thrilled I walked into Dr. Woodyard’s office two years ago. Her professionalism and technical competence are excelled only by her bedside manner. My issues with my skin have been resolved and the experience has been truly life changing. Another critical part of my experience is the exceptional staff the doctor employs. To a person they are professional, patient and dependable. A special shout out to Stacey Edgar for her skin care services and product recommendations. Her knowledge of the latest developments In cosmeceuticals has actually streamlined my daily routine. I use four basic items instead of a medicine cabinet filled with goop and concoctions that don’t deliver. I save time and money, and my skin glows."- K.H. / Google / Apr 19, 2019
Techniques of both full abdominoplasty and mini tummy tuck can be very similar. However , a smaller incision may be used with the mini tummy tuck as a smaller area is treated. Sometimes it also depends on the amount of loose skin that will be removed. Liposuction may be used with this surgery. During the procedure, excess skin is removed and the remaining skin and underlying tissues are pulled tight. The result is a flat and more toned belly. The belly button is unaffected with this surgery because it typically does not need to be repositioned. The scar is usually limited to the lower abdomen and mostly hidden beneath undergarments and swimwear.
A mini tummy tuck is performed in an accredited surgical facility, under general anesthesia. The surgery typically takes between 1-2 hours. Patients are released from the hospital following this surgery. The recovery period can take 6-8 weeks; this is the clearance normally given to resume with strenuous activities and exercise. Patients report high satisfaction of their surgical results and love having a well-shaped, tighter abdomen. Results after a mini tummy tuck are permanent. However, pregnancy or unnecessary weight gain will compromise the results so it’s best to maintain a proper diet and regular exercise.
A mini tummy tuck can cost between $4,000 to $6,000. Overall, it is less expensive than a traditional (regular) or extended abdominoplasty procedure.

Mini Tummy Tuck FAQs
Patients who are candidates for a mini tummy tuck may also be candidates for liposuction as an isolated procedure. If loose skin is involved, however, liposuction will not be able to treat this. Liposuction is reserved for fat removal only. The only way to address loose skin is through a skin tightening procedure. A thorough assessment will be conducted during the initial consultation and the appropriate treatment plan recommended.
The mini tummy tuck procedure can be done even if a patient has an existing C-section scar. Typically, the incision made with a mini tummy tuck will be made just below the C-section scar. With this new incision, the loose skin is removed. The area will be pulled tight combining the two incisions into one. This new incision line usually heals nicely and often can be concealed under bathing suits and undergarments.
We would advise a patient to delay the mini tummy tuck surgery if there are still plans of having children. This kind of treatment should take place after all pregnancies have been completed. The goal of any tummy tuck procedure is to tighten the abdominal wall. Pregnancy after a tummy tuck can compromise the surgical results.
